Art for art sake

Art for art sake*
By: Farideh Hassanzadeh

Art for art sake
that is why I buy a beautiful floral bedding
for my single bed
no matter, no lover will sleep next to me
to caress my hair
and the warmth of his kisses
turn the two question marks
hanging from my chest
into the two fresh breasts.
the rivers also may disappear
through sinkholes, continuing underground,

no matter the lonely rivers wish
they could flow into the sea.

Art for art sake
that is why each morning
I polish the mosaics in the living room
no matter no one will come to visit me
the sun also rises each morning,
bright and polished,
no matter that it will be overcome
by the darkness of the night.

Art for art sake
that is why I sew beautiful floral clothes
for myself
no matter I'm not young anymore
and I am invisible to young men
the wind also is invisible
and blows only for its wandering heart

Art for art sake
that is why I write poems
no matter the Nobel prize won't be my share
and no publication will accept my poetry
wild flowers also grow in wilderness
having no choice but blooming
no matter that no one will see their beauty.
