Butterflies

Floyd Rue Jr 1987 (New York)

Wings flapping on a warm summer day
Colors magnificent, bright and warm
In a field of flowers they come to play
In the beauty of nature they swarm

Butterflies

On your shoulder a Monarch lands
You look upon it in wonder and awe
You reach up to cup it in your hands
Study the beauty you want to draw

Butterflies

On your windowsill is a Painted Lady
You see it in all of its splendor
Its innocence pure just like a baby
You wonder if you could befriend her

Butterflies

Up in a tree you see a cocoon
Transformation is under way
It emerges under a full moon
A Morpho, born on this day

Butterflies

They come in all colors and sizes
Full of beauty they fly with grace
Mother Nature is full of surprises
They dance in flurries in open space
