I never imagined I wouldn’t feel cold anymore-
and by cold I don’t mean temperature.

I mean when you wake up and everything isn’t so dark
and the thunderstorms in my head finally silence.
I mean when I start to sing again
and not every lyric has to mean something.
I mean when I don’t pray for my darkness to end
and instead I see light.

I see beauty in the things I once hated
I am grateful for my brain, although stormy it heals
it is mine and therefore I must love its silly little thoughts

Although I yearn to be different
to be like Her,
I am me,
and as scary as that can be,
I am grateful I stayed.
