Juliet's what's in a name?

Brian S. Clifton 1975 (Ohio)

Juliet's what's in a name?

Is a rose not still a rose
if called by any other name?
Would the woody stems
not still be adorned
by sharp prickle thorns
pricking the fingertips
of pluckers and pickers
and other such predators?

What of the fragrance,
would it not be the same?
Scents of musk
admixt sweetness
with a hint of earthy spice
desirous of perfume
or do aromatics change
from name to name?

Maybe upon the flower
a moniker does lay claim?
Blooms of rosa petals
no longer velvet textured
nor even collected
never made into a bouquet
so artfully arranged?

Or would such notions
be clearly misnomers
disregarded or remade?
A namesake's shape
taken from which it's made,
placed on tissue paper
safe with Baby's Breath
knowing one's nature
by nomenclature
is not so easily changed.
