Say "Hi" to my Demons

For the last time, he decided, as this was all he had left.
He laid himself bare before her, ripped open his chest.
Exposing his insecurities and all that had broken him.
He introduced her to his demons, then to his darkness.

Would she turn away in aversion? Not pity, he hoped.
All whom he had trusted before her, without exception,
had used his pain against him, his weakness their weapon.

Instead, she relaxed, empathy softened her beautiful face.
Her eyes bespoke understanding, how she could truly relate.
She took his hands to assure him, then whispered to him.

There is nowhere else I’d rather be, nowhere I feel more safe.
Then when I am in your arms and within your embrace.
And the darkness that haunts you? It shall also protect us.
