Autumn Dance

Beside my feet there was a sound
Of dancing leaves upon the ground
That never once began to slow
Their pace and rhythm on the go.
Some danced in circles with the wind
As though excited with a friend
Because they were at last so free
From what had held them to a tree.
They ran across the street with cheer
To finally be leaving here
Not knowing that the wind would leave
Thus ending hope for their reprieve
Unlike their brothers whose desire
Helped guide them far away from fire.
