Monster in my life

It creeps into my mind at night.
It knows I have no energy to fight.
It comes to take away the progress I have made.
As it takes control, reality fades away
The distant memory that I thought I'd be ok.
Depression and anxiety hinder on sobriety.
My head is a place I don't want to be
Consumed with memories I don't want to see.
It affects us all. No matter sex or race, depression has the same face.
Everyday gets harder than before.
Everyday there is one less open door.
Most days I'm afraid of the darkness,
Not because the monster under the bed.
But because the monster in my head.
