I Heard It On the Wing
Upon the cusp of daybreak I awoke
My heart leaped for my darling damsel fair
A joyous trump which angels did invoke
Rang out the news as by a gentle prayer
My love for her didst also satisfy
To soothe the aching of forlorn romance
And by her love, I bade a glad good-bye
To any doubtful course of circumstance
Thus, the sacred eyes of God, I commend
Which seeing to the inward hidden parts
Behold the secrets of men to their end
Discovering the treasures of our hearts
Such a precious auspice kept for us both,
are glad tidings of whence we shall betroth.
About this poem
