Desperation

If my feelings were music
They would be words without a song.
If my pain had a conscience
The guilt would be too strong.

If my tears all came together
The rain would fall for days.
And if I could look in the mirror
I wouldn’t see through the haze.

If my thoughts had wings
They would plummet into the sea.
And if my ambitions had value
It would be a bare money tree.

Instead of reaching for the stars
I cling to shreds of hope.
Instead of towing the line
I hope for someone to throw me a rope.

This poem was originally written in 2001 during a stagnant time in my life. A few years later it fit in perfectly with the darkest and most desperate time in my life.
