I Can't Unring a Bell

Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)

I cannot take my words from you;
They went inside your mind.
I don't know why you'd want me to;
True love is hard to find.

I can't put toothpaste back inside
The tube it just escaped,
Nor with a horse can I unride
As if time was reshaped.

No, I cannot undo the past
And would not if I could.
Since words of love will surely last
The way I hoped they would.
