The Faded Curtain

Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)

She had a faded curtain in
Her tiny living room,
But never seemed to notice it
Within her lonely gloom.

She never opened up the drapes,
Preferring not to see
The world outside with people shapes
That live so happily.

It would not do her any good
To look past curtains that
Had only blocked a view that would
Show dirt that seemed abstract.

Just like the curtain, it showed much
Neglect of many years.
She lived alone and out of touch
For he left her in tears!
