War Babies

Such a tiny scrap of humanity
crippled by wars relentless insanity
found by those who thought him dead
a five year old in a hospital bed
he never saw that roadside bomb
just woke to find his legs had gone
collateral damage to those who wage war
what should be abhorred, they simply ignore
tears as the aid worker continues his tale
followed the sound of a childish wail
in a burnt out shell they made their den
not one of those kids were over ten
raking through rubbish out on the street
stomachs screaming for something to eat
they trembled and cowered like beaten dogs
so i got on my knees, prayed to God
lord please let these children understand
i don't come to hurt but to lend a hand
left orphans by war, they fight to survive
grieving for parents no longer alive
little boy runs with a huge great gun
beguiled to believe this is called fun
innocence lost as you taught him to kill
bearing false witness you say its Gods will
little girls turned to women for twisted pleasure
depth of this evil is too sick to measure
are you reading this you men of wars
always coveting what isn't yours
this is a message for every nation
time to stop this ABOMINATION !
