Something Which Does Not Like a Wall

There is--
Something in me which doesn't like a wall,
between you and me,
between inside us or outside turrets.

I keep faith inside
though outside are warring armies.
Monstrous animals dispatched
spies vs spies in strait jackets
while walls reverberate
with results of murder.

Perhaps tomorrow I'll be aggrieved
Because my enemy chose to persist
I'll yield to a one suitcase exit
all the way to the jet.

About this poem

I wrote this because that first line stuck in my mind for a few days--I assumed it was from Robert Frost, I found it very compelling to use it myself.

Prior to teaching, she spent twenty years working in the fields of print and publishing. As the owner of a desktop publishing business, she handled design and production. Returning to finish her degree, Mary earned a B.A. in Psychology in 1998 from S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook cum laude, and an M.S. in Education of the Deaf from Adelphi University in 2003, graduating summa cum laude.
