Purple

Purple. What does it mean? It has no connotations in my brain. Red is placed with anger, fire, and rage. Yellow with happiness, bright and light. Blue, sadness, quiet, calm. Purple? Purple has never had any meaning to me. At a young age, it was my favourite colour. But that's all. It meant nothing. I decided to google it, because I can not think of anything purple could represent. “The colour purple is often associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power and ambition.” I have never thought of purple in any of those ways. It meant nothing to me. Until I met you.

Suddenly, purple reminded me of something, just like red or yellow did. It now has meaning to me. Whenever I see the bold, but introverted colour, I think of you. I smile. You make me feel safe and secure. Purple. Safe and secure? Now the colour has a meaning. Every time I see you, you wear something that has a hint of colour. I smile. “Is purple your favourite colour?”, I ask, like a kindergarten student trying to make a new friend and find out everything about them. “Yes, I love purple,” you say. Suddenly, purple is you. I see a purple car and I think of you. Purple shirt? Purple drink? Purple, Purple, Purple. Purple doesn't even sound like a word anymore. It sounds wrong now, saying it over and over again. Just like saying your name.

What once made me smile, now makes me cry. I still look at purple cars, purple shirts, and purple drinks and think of you. But now, purple no longer represents safety and security. I have millions of questions for you, purple now being in the unknown. After my rose-tinted glasses were screwed off, I realised. You should have no meaning in my brain. I wish all the memories were erased. Purple would once again have the thought of my childhood favourite colour. Not anymore. What once was a childhood memory, is now ruined. This was a writing piece about colours, turned into a person. You.

Purple. What does it mean? It had no connotations in my brain. Red is placed with anger, fire, and rage. Yellow with happiness, bright and light. Blue, sadness, quiet, calm. Purple? Purple is you.
