Nighttime of Life

                                    Nighttime of Life

Nighttime, in the quite of our minds,
     when we are all alone;
We think of things that could have been
   and what things different we could have done.
But the divergence of the paths of the lives
   of those we walk besides,
Are seldom destined to converge again;
   thus, perpetuating the pain inside.

Two souls walk through the darkest night
   searching for a hand to grasp,
      or the others arm to hold.
They ask each other only, “may time regress
   and replay once again”?
The time in life when all was bliss
   before the perfect love was lost;
      and the pain of living too great a cost.
                      And then the daylight comes
   and these things are but a dream.

                For a fool cannot retrace his steps
      And walk he must tomorrow.
Though suffering with a broken heart
  He may greedily embrace the sorrow.

About this poem

A broken bone may readily mend, an arm, a leg, a hand; but a broken heart when love departs, both grief and heartache will contend, to see which will control the soul and on to hell will send, for neither will consent to give permission to heal the rend.
