Memories of mine

A blanket and an eiderdown
And some Winceyette  pjs
Are the things that I remember
In those long past distant days.

A stone hot water bottle
And my Dansette plugged in the light
Was what I always remember
On a cold dark winters night.

Stockings and suspenders
Not tights to keep you warm
I bought some long legged bloomers
So I wouldn’t feel forlorn.

This was when I started work
And queued up for the bus
It always seemed much colder then
Though I didn’t make a fuss.

Four pounds ten and eleven
Was the weekly amount I earned
It was surprising what you could buy back then
and I had to save I learned.

C&A was my favourite shop
To buy the latest trend
And carwardines for coffee
With my mate my bestest friend.

Banlon tops and pleated skirts
The height of 60s fashion
and back combed hair and
Blackened eyes were certainly my passion.

Dancing round our handbags
at the Glen on an afternoon
All looking like Dusty Springfield
Our youth just starting to bloom.

Stilettos were the shoes to wear
And electric rollers for my hair
And lipstick to make my lips look white
I must have looked a scary sight.

These days are etched upon my mind
Take me back to a younger time
things were so much simpler then
Days that I remember when.
