But then I thought of you

Being driven in here really made me scared,
But then I thought of you.
Been shown to my cell and locked in,
But then I thought of you.
Lying on my 3” mattress not being able to sleep,
But then I thought of you.
Lying here thinking if your birthday missing your celebrations,
But then I thought of you.
Being told when I could only be unlocked,
But then I thought of you.
Just wishing life could be so different,
But then I thought of you.
Following everyone and not knowing where I was going,
But then I thought of you.
Eating only the food I was given,
But then I thought of you.
Being told I could only wear certain clothes,
But then I thought of you.
Waiting for our next phone call to be able to talk to you,
But then I thought of you.
Only surviving on limited money,
But then I thought of you.
Being so scared of the pandemic,
But then I thought of you.
Crying on my pillow, missing you dearly,
But then I thought of you.
To be honest I’ve even contemplated ending my life,
But then I thought of you.
It’s only because I thought of you,
That has got me through teach and every day.
Please hold on to the thought this is not forever.
Lots of love mummy x

About this poem

Trying to stay positive whilst being in prison. Missing my daughter with a broken heart, I even contemplated suicide as I thought at the time of no other way out.
