ALLIES

We need allies
 We need allies
we need allies to help save our lives
we need allies to help us ignite a flame
that is steadfast on hold, peace, and faith
We need allies to help sell a ship to a future filled with dreams; not crushed fantasies that turned into fear and make us sleep.
We need allies to take the torch to the finish line
We need allies to assist in between the fights
We need allies to pave a way for the dehumanized
We need allies to interlace arms and March with bravery for the victimized
We need allies to understand flaws and not place a brain because where is the justice for the human race.
We need allies to understand that all men are aren't created equal, but that narrative can be changed.
Through critical resistance we can UNITE as one because allies are one for all, not one for one.

Allies

Shadica Garwood is a junior at the State University of New Paltz who was born in Jamaica, West Indies and she migrated to the United States in 2014 and became a United states citizen in March of 2020 which was a challenging year for entire world. She is currently double majoring in English and Psychology with hopes of getting a PHD in Clinical Psychology to combat against the stigmas against mental health in communities of color. Shadica has the drive and determination of working hard to whatever extent that she thinks she should. In high school, she graduated as one of the top 5 students of her graduating class where she held the positional rank of number 2 as the graduating class Salutatorian. She has continued to diligently strive for academic success even through college by taking on many leadership roles, while still being able to achieve a high-grade point average as well as making the dean’s list. Shadica has a caring and god-fearing heart, and she loves to help her community and family members. Shadica’s favorite mantra which is also her favorite bible verse which is hanged right over desk in her college dormitory is as follows “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, this scripture has been her anchor and her feeling of triumph when the journey gets overbearing and challenging. Lastly, Shadica believes that “Higher Education is the place where adults and young adults can revolutionize their lives and decide who they truly want to become in the future. Lastly, so far college for her has been a place where I found one true unbreakable relationship with hopes of finding more, and I found my passion for writing and sustainability, mindfulness mediation, as well as becoming more equipped with better communication skills for career readiness and advocating for myself and others. more…
