I'm Beginning

I wake up in a drug induced fog,
Not knowing where I'm at so I take off.
Nothing is left of yesterday,
My memory could care less and has thrown it away.
Lost in these motions caught in denial,
A blind man could see this problem has had me a while.
So close to the edge I can barely move,
Thinking of turning around I got nothing more to lose.
I'm Beginning
This path will be hard and paved with temptation,
I have to face it head on and know I can make it.
Some people may doubt my courage and ambition,
But there is no doubt in me, I've made my decision.
My strength has increased as my adversity grew,
With each step forward I'm brought closer to you.
My Hope, My light, My way in this addiction,
You are all that I hear when I stop to listen.
Thank you father for finding me in such a lost place,
Its with you and only you I'm meant to find a way.
So as I solider on, I'll keep my head held high,
Grateful for the will that I have to survive.
I'm Beginning.

About this poem

I wrote this poem as I was coming to a crossroads with addiction and sobriety. Its a way to look at how I was emotionally struggling with whether or not I could achieve when everyone around me had doubt that I'd make it through. But as it stands, I'm to this day clean and sober now. Thanks to God and his grace.
