Beneath Lazarus
Abeer 2023 (Mumbai)
When the sea is lost to fall, and all of it
Withered in stark winter when night hits
I come round the freezing world to change
And I melt the stars at shooting range
Then I keep the forever run
Irony is never quite as fun
For if I was given a box full of hope
I would crawl inside, alongside my rope
The fear engulfed the bravery I shred
Fallen so pure, my modesty is all I bled
The strings of Orpheus move for my distress
He looks back at a reflection of himself
Honey, all my dreamings are linings
Linings of the end when I start to blink
If the vulture took pity when I start to sink
Remember to fill only as much as you drink
About this poem
This poem is about the sense of loss, grief, depression. It has heavy use of greek mythology in place. For example, Pandora's box, Orpheus journey through hell, Prometheus and the vulture. This poem is a crude representation of sorrow and pain that comes after some heartache, and has hope hidden somewhere.
