Shadows

Sitting in a soft honored shop
sharing words with those around
thinking of us all

Whispers could be heard between coffee
sips & the tapping of each spoon

The day kept up its pace as history took its place, as the seconds of our lives passed before our eyes

As I wandered all about each passing day, Yet, I never gave a thought to the sun as it press upon my seat & comfort

In between each window pane, it burned upon the bookshelves making shadows of us all

Waiting my days for conversation
or an evening dazzle to entertain

Between each thought I scribbled out the day with bitter tea and Half & half to soothe  my gathered craves

Walking between the rows of books, looking for a place to settle
to browse through other creative minds

Holding on to my subtleties
thinking over days of ranting raves
within and around huddled groups looking
for a distant lost pleasure

Finding myself alone again
as you all had come and gone
leaving dirty cups & stained spoons

All the while the sun never stopped to take a look, yet made shadows of us all

Climbing back into my mind to walk along Cloverbrook to Dublin Ln stopping to look across my years, as I made my way to Gobblerford

Looking in my brothers room with his scattered thoughts lingered collecting dust

While he stood tall & broad waiting for his solemn bride to make up his mind of what to do

Season changed its tune
the leaves rustled at my feet

Whistled up the tree where the birds
no longer sang of autumns gloom and
all our roots are no longer here

Counting up the days that added up my life
with scattered empty pens
beside the burnt matches and smoky buts

Never did the sun bother
to stop and take a look
yet made shadows of us all

Making my way to my sisters side with
the boys at her feet & grandma in the other
room humming out the day
in the distant years now behind

I never knew the reason of us all
as we stood along side each other
upon Mothers wall

Nor the reason for each decision for
the distance we put between us

Yet I still stood beside you all
stepping over each reason

Where the sun never stopped to take a look
yet made the shadows we left behind.
