Wanting what I fear

I long for love's warm embrace,
To share my heart and soul.
But the past loves have left no loving trace,
Leaving my spirit cold.

I crave another's loving touch,
Yet fear the heartbreak it may bring.
To love another, oh how much!
But then again, how much it can sting.

The pain and sorrow,
And I will cry till tomorrow.
Leaving no tears left behind.
Love has me defined.

You start to miss the one you loved.
The one you loved like no other.
All the memories haunt you.
As you continue to suffer.

Those five stages of grief.
Those five stages of pain.
All that love,
Right down the drain.

So here I am, torn between
The light and dark of love.
Wanting to trust what I've yet to seen,
Yet scars from past loves still do not leave.

About this poem

This is a poem about the good and the bad of love, and how much it can hurt a person. I personally love and hate the feeling of love, but I think it is a wonderful topic for a poem.
