Breadcrumbs

Charles Edward York 1966 (Saigon, Vietnam)

Breadcrumbs

Your breadcrumbs starve me of love
The pieces of affection
Fall to the floor
Without any attention
To the recipe you promised

The nourishment I want and need
Slips through my hands
Moments of laughter
Seen so few between the silence
Turns into tears too often.

Your messages come across in smoke
No clarity on how you feel
Just baffling words
Disguising your real intentions
Leaving me confused.

Your eyes wander from one to another
Keeping options open
I am lost between the cracks
Not your priority
Just a sound bite for spare time.

I’m baking a new loaf for myself
One I feed myself from now on
No time to wait for you
I must live beyond breadcrumbs
And satiate my soul on love.
