A Stitch in Time?

La C. Ward 1975 (Nova Scotia)

I take a needle and some thread
to fix a hole in my clothes,
but how do I fix a broken heart?
How does one repair those?

Do I use some glue or Velcro strips?
Could I possibly try some string?
I doubt it would be a permanent fix,
as it would barely hold a thing.

They say time will heal a broken heart
but I wonder who are “they”?
Are their children still on this earth?
Did their babies get to stay?

Time is a healer? Is it though,
or just more time to grieve?
Overwhelming thoughts and too much time,
will this sadness ever leave?

Months go by,  with many stitches placed,
and several more each day,
as I'm adding stitches in my heart,
the memories rip them away.

Many stitches in succession
can repair and keep a strong hold.
It's supposed to fix it almost like new,
at least, so I've been told.

Maybe what I'm doing wrong
is using myself to place the stitch.
It's like trying to scratch a difficult spot
to ease that unreachable itch.

I've acted ok and accepted this life,
but am I really healing?
Am I harbouring all this hurt alone?
Or should I be more revealing?

Masking pain was always my style
but I'm trying to be more transparent.
I'm lifting the weight of all my hurts
to the hands of my Heavenly parent.

Jesus, help to mend my heart,
To You, it is worth more than gold
I know each stitch that You will place,
is guaranteed to hold.

So, time could mend a broken heart,
when it's part of His big plan
Jesus heals, and in His time
I will be whole again.
