The Yearn to Grow

Maybe all these verses
are just curses
aimed directly at me

And I am so glad
that you never meant to do me harm,
but you harmed me, nevertheless.

And I've learned to grow,
like apples in the grove,
but I'm so sick of adapting to you.

I am sorry if my voice cracked
I’m still growing into it,
you see,

I am still young
and terrified,
and so very naive.

I yearn to grow into someone who is strong,
if I was I different person, a braver person,
that's who I'd be all along.

But the world is so hard sometimes.
They make it so hard to be,
who I want to be.
