Tonight is a Million Lonely Hours Without You
Tonight I wept a good deal
Tonight I nicked my skin
By a dull fire light
Whose name called mine.
Tonight the rain never came
But the air was dry and cool
As the winds swept over me
Plucking me from the earth
Sweeping me away.
Tonight I flew the miles
Of a million desert canyons
Of a million lonely trails
Whose miles run unending
Like the arteries I bled out.
Tonight I can’t catch myself
From falling.

Written in honor of my grandfather, Francis, who passed away on Mother's Day of 2023.
