Nightshade

In the lethal garden
Where roses bleed,
Thorns pierce skin,
And violets whisper
Secrets in the wind,
The tulips sway,
Intoxicated by the sun,
As lilies hide
Their poisoned tongues.
Butterflies,
Fragile and ignorant,
Dance on the petals
Of deadly nightshade,
Unaware
Of their imminent demise.
Gossamer webs
Cling to the branches,
A trap laid
By the carnivorous flora,
Tricking unsuspecting prey
In its grasp.
Here,
Beauty masks treachery,
And every step
Could be your last,
As the garden claims
Another victim.
Yet, in this vibrant chaos,
Where danger intertwines
With allure,
The lethal garden thrives.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
