Frozen Dreams

Winter's icy breath
Froze my ambitions,
While time's relentless hands
Ticked away,
Each second, like a grain of sand.

Days stretched like shadows,
Slipping through my fingers
As life raced ahead,
Like a bullet train,
Leaving me behind.

Youth, the elusive butterfly,
Fluttered away with fleeting grace,
Leaving me in the ruins,
Of my own indecisions.

The world was my canvas,
But I painted in whispers,
A timid stroke here,
A hesitant dab there.

Opportunities beckoned,
But I shrunk in their glow,
Afraid to step outside,
Afraid to let go.

The specter of age loomed,
As my dreams remained unfulfilled,
A symphony of unspoken desires,
Played on the strings of my heart.

But still, I pressed on,
Like a seedling
Breaking through the earth,
Emerging from the darkness,
Seeking the light.

Though the hours slipped away,
Each one a gentle reminder,
I refused to surrender
To the relentless march of time.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication.
