Sanguine Joy

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

Sanguine joy,
With its ember glow
Entwined in the marrow
Of longing,
A vein of crimson
Undulating
Through the pulsating
Fabric of time.

But to grasp its essence
Is to taste
The bittersweet nectar
Of desire,
To risk thorns
Hidden amidst petals,
And surrender
To vulnerability.

In dreams,
Sanguine joy transcends
The boundaries
Of logic and reason,
Whispering secrets
To the moonlight,
Like lovers
Entwined in ecstasy.

Yet,
When reality spills forth
Its unyielding
Hues of gray,
Sanguine joy
Can falter and fade,
Its vibrant hues
Dulled by despair.

Still,
There lingers
A spark of hope,
A flickering ember
Within the heart,
Rekindling
The essence
Of sanguine joy,
