Dear friend

                       Dear friend
It’s been a while
Feels like years
Memories awoken when I see your smile
Experience that led to tears

Funny how time flies
Surprising how it all felt like lies
There were no longer ties
Once we said our goodbyes

Promises were made,
Yet never actually fulfilled
Memories that never fade,
but one we could no longer build

I see you,
Despite being so far
I feel so blue,
When I recall how we grew apart

There was no existing bond,
Just casual salutations
One with whom my heart was so fond,
Was distant beyond my expectations

Life realities aren’t something one can guess,
I knew that all too well
But I also knew that our situation was like a board of chess
That, I could tell

Distance brought a lot of clarity,
Taking us both on a new ride
There was a lot of disparity,
and I wasn’t sure what was left for us inside

We needed separation to discover
Space to make way for goals we wanted to achieve
A new life to uncover,
all what life had to give

I lost a close friend,
But I gained some more
A bond I thought would never end,
Dissipated faster than a sore

At the expense of losing you,
I found me
Although it felt new
Happiness and love I grew to see

They say something that  belongs to you would always find it’s way back to you
But I knew in an instant we had our different directions
Acceptance, that was hard to do
But in the process, we made long-lasting connections

Love for you would always be in my heart
Despite our time apart
I knew it from the start
That the memories would stay, even if we depart

Life is a learning field
It took time to sink in
It taught me how to build
and truly discover all that I was feeling

We take our different ways
We dive into a  new place
A toast we raise
To a good time we were able to embrace

Regardless, I’m there for you
And I know you are too
Dear friend
My love and appreciation, I send
