The Night I Met You

The night is an ocean of velvet and cold,
And my heart is a little paper boat.
I am lost and alone in the southeast breeze,
And I do not know where I float in this sky of pitch.

But there, to the north, a firefly lights up.
It is a flame faint and vibrant,
Like a lighthouse beckoning me.
With all my strength, I row towards the mesmerizing fire.

As I approach, I see that it is a candle,
A miniature sun framed in a window.
And inside the house, a woman emerges.
Sitting by the fire, a book in her hands, a universe submerges.

She raises her eyes and sees me.
And in her eyes, a lighthouse of love burns.
It is a love that is soft as wine and bright as a jewel,
And it fills me with curiosity, a warmth that shelters and soothes my cold.

I row my boat towards the shore,
And I climb on the sand, with pearls and shells.
I go to the house, a beacon in the night,
And with my heart beating strong, I knock on the door, inviting the light to keep me company.

The woman opens the door,
And her smile is like the dawn.
She welcomes me into her home,
And offers me a cup of tea, like a warm embrace.

We talk for hours, a coral of lives,
And I tell her about my symphony.
She tells me about her song,
And we laugh and cry together, an opera of emotions.

As the night unfolds,
The candle burns down to a little red dot.
Finally, in the blink of an eye, it goes out.
But the love that shone in the woman's eyes
Will be an eternal flame, that in my heart will never die.

About this poem

This is a lyrical expression of my experience of falling in love and finding a deep connection with someone. The title, "The Night I Met You," is a reminiscence of a specific night when the character encountered a special person who had a significant impact on their life, but as life passes quickly, in the blink of an eye, they were gone.
