Words Unspoken

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

The wind whispers
Softly in my ear,
As I wander
Through the trees.
I feel like I'm lost,
Drowning in the noise
Of the world
Around me,
Struggling
To find a way
To quiet my mind.
But then
I hear your sigh,
So deep
And full of intention,
And it's like the ocean
Washing up on the shore,
Steady and sure.

I know
You're out there,
Somewhere
In the distance,
Keeping your secrets
Close
And waiting
For the perfect moment
To share them.
And I want to be there,
To know you,
To understand you.
I want to bridge
The gap
Between us,
To close
The distance
That keeps us apart.

Speak to me,
With words unspoken
And feelings left unsaid.
Shout it out
Above the trees,
And let me hear
Your voice
Loud
And clear.
Share with me
The life you lead,
And I'll do the same.
Together,
We'll weather
The storms of life,
Just like the timeless wind
Blowing
Through the trees.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
