The Masterpiece of Van Gogh

Faylee Goren 2008 (Toronto)

I’ve got no explanation;
I don’t need an explanation.
Brain muffled and blinded
By my heart.

The beauty of this love
I can let you go
‘Cause I know you can’t control
The magnetic force that brings you back.
I can let the fire burn
‘Cause I know all it can do is spread.

I can live without your touch,
Because your hands are tattooed to my skin,
I’m a mural, I’m a mosaic,
And the pictures on my arms and legs
Are the love I’ve gotten the privilege of living in.

But your picture isn’t here yet.
You haven’t stained my skin yet.
I think that’s because you are so much bigger than a mural
Than a painting.
You’re not simply a story on my skin.
You don't aim to stain my skin,
You don't try to take up the most space on my body.
You simply observe me
Like I am the masterpiece of Van Gogh.
