The Engagement Ring

William Scampton 1940 (Philadelphia Pa)

May 23

Here I sit in this far off land,
Wishing to place this ring on your hand.
I hope this ring touches your heart,
Cause I love you and you love me,
Even though we're thousands of miles apart.
Really, it's not just an old fashion,
For me it is a sign of passion.
It means more to me,
For you to have this ring on,
It shows our love is willingly strong.
It means we're engaged,
In each others heart,
Waiting to say, 'I do'
Til death do us part.

About this poem

A poem from a lonely soldier thousands of miles away from the one he is in love with hoping that the ring will keep his love until he can get home.
