The Climb

William Assad 1949 (Penn)

We journeyed up that old hill we knew
From the tiny house along Highway 51.
Sharing conversations of the mysterious
Of a world lived twenty years and a few.
Oh how well we knew the ways of things back then
"Never trust a man over 30" and here we are again.
Twice that and more, our years bring us closer.
To another journey, another hill to climb.
What words of wisdom may come to us now?
Where will the next hill lead us?
The view from the top is what we seek
Then, when our vision was not blurred
After years of climbing to reach the top
