The Bell Tolls
The bell tolls, the bell tolls
Day and night
Through the rain,dreary cold rain
For none will stay alive
They fight bravely in their sickbeds
Battling death with their very souls
They go on till morn
Yet their strength is diminished
They are pained and worn
In agony they draw breath
Knowing it is their last
The bell tolls, the bell tolls
Day and night
Through the rain, dreary cold rain
For none will stay alive
White faces, cold hands, blue lips
Piled high in the carts
Buried low in the ground
No ceremony as the dirt built up
Only tears on the hard-set faces
Of those who were left
As more wagons roll toward them
Over cobbled streets
The bell tolls, the bell tolls
Day and night
Through the rain, dreary cold rain
For none will stay alive
Still some persevered
And made it through
In memory of the lost
They pay last respects
They shed tears of anguish
And with scarred hearts
They carry on, carry on
Just as they had before
Finally the bell has stopped tolling
Yet in their minds,
It shall forever be ringing.
