Final Leave

Racheal Burrell 1987 (United States)

Longing into nature,
Crying with the rain.
Tears brought by sadness,
Fears never the same.

Silently screaming,
Reaching for the moon.
Fulfillment filling,
Where there is no room.

"Forward momentum" they say,
So I go, and I go.
Pushing and pushing,
But always brought low.

Struggling to breathe,
Yet finding no air.
Only bleak horizons,
And lifelong despair.

Everyone cares,
And yet no one speaks.
A deceptive smile,
Is strength for the weak.

Gasping for air,
Now reluctant to breathe.
With a silent bow,
I take my final leave.
