Beast

Beast 1963

My son, Alex, is sad
Disappointed in me
Disappointed with my marriage
Disappointed in my choice to remain
Married for over 25 years
I found no common grounds
With my wife who is
“Your exact opposite,” Alex says
Why could you remain living
In misery in the name of the father
The son, Me, you sacrificed so much
Did you teach me love?
Surely, you did not!
Your life, my life, and her life
Could have been different
And perhaps even happier
Did you teach me patience?
Surly, not.
But, patience to what end?
What has been the cost of suffering?
What have we achieved?
A poem?  Perhaps.
About misery living with a beast
Who could have been a happy beast
In a happy home and with a happy
Family.  We lost!
