Another

Cigarettes burn and I try to
think back and count how many drinks
I’ve had tonight.
I can’t count, the shots
rushing together until
I almost consider asking for
a drag, but I haven’t
in weeks now, and I’ve been
so good, I’ve been
doing so well.

But then again,

then
you kiss me and I think
the same thing as before, the words echoing,
I’ve been so good,
I’ve been doing so well,
we haven’t in weeks.
We part and your cigarette is out,
so I say,

“Light another,”
