A Perfect Circle Made of Black Marker

A perfect circle painted with black marker

Isn’t seemed too much bright yet isn’t that much darker

Than a new concrete road with perfect yellow lines

Or a ticking clock with all the time

A perfect flower vase in a pretty purple pot

Except the petals are withered and left to rot

A perfect school filled with all the smart ones

Except they stare in mirrors with loaded guns

A perfect deck in the backyard

Full of rats hidden underneath with all your discard

Only from the inside are these things darker

Just like a perfect circle made of black marker

About this poem

This poem explains the reality of being “perfect”. Nobody is truly perfect - and this circle represents that fact. People are the circle. Everyone has their secrets, their guilt, and whatever else you may be hiding; but no matter how hard you try to be perfect, you’re still drawn by the ink of a black marker.
