"In Memoriam"

Allen C. Gary 1946 (Baltimore)

May 23

"In Memoriam Means In Memory
Into Memory That Day Was Cast.
When We Saw In The Faces Of Those Present.
The Faces Of That Past.

The Mind Mirrored Image Reflecting
A View Of A Nation Aghast
That Soul Searing Image Burned Deeply
A Forever Mark From That Blast.

In Memoriam Means In Memory
Into Memory That Day Was Cast
So Dire - So Grim - A Memory
So Fiery - So Deadly So Fast.

Our Thoughts Will Be Nightmares In Daytime
Souls Falling Fall The Skies.
While Those Memories May Dim
They Will Still Rise And Swim
In Tears Before Our Eyes.

In Memoriam Means In Memory
Into Memory That Day Was Cast.
Indelibly Marked As Pearl Harbor
And Permanently Pinned To Our Past.

Yes Our Thoughts Will Be Nightmares In Daytime
Souls Falling From The Skies
While Those Memories May Dim
They Will Still Rise And Swim
In Tears Behind Our Eyes

In Memoriam Means In Memory
May Their Memory Forever Last
May We See In The Faces Of Those Present
The Faces Of Those Past.

About this poem

Written on 9/11/2001 - as it unfolded in real time. The images numbed the mind. Now at 77 years old - a Vietnam Vet - I see what is happening to our constitutional republic as a threat greater than ground zero. Our nation must stand - again. -
