First Love

First Love

You walked into my life like a breath of fresh air,
But soon I realized, you were much too tough to bear.
You were my first love, first girlfriend,
But our relationship was toxic, it had to end.

You were controlling, manipulative, and demanding,
And I was naive, young, and understanding.
I thought I could change you, make you see,
But you were too broken, and too damaged for me.

It was a rough lesson, but is was one I needed to learn,
Toxic love is no love at all, crack! It's a fire that will burn.
I had to let go, move on, heal,
And most importantly I needed to find someone who’d love me for real.

Now I’m much wiser, stronger, and more prepared,
For the ups and downs of love, no longer am I scared.
I know what I want, and what I deserve,
And I won't settle for less, because now I have the nerve.

It was a rough lesson, but is was one I needed to learn,
Toxic love is no love at all, crack! It’s a fire that will burn.
I had to let go, move on, heal,
And most importantly I needed to find someone who’d love me for real.

Even though it may sound like I hate you,
I want you to know I forgave you, even if you never loved me too.
You'll always be in my mind, and in my heart,
Always my first love, and the one who tore me apart.
