SUNSETS & STARRY NIGHTS: A Summer Love Story

Free verse
A gentle breeze blows my hair
That caress my face like your fingers bare
A heart so cold like a winter that you’ve known
Is now full of warmth to which I was unknown


This summer fills me up with life
With us becoming a man and wife
The love that blooms in loving embrace
This warmth of summer, winter cannot replace!


Your whispers near ear and kisses like feathers
Are more exciting than sunsets we watch together  
Like sunflowers facing sun, living the aura it surrounds
My face glows beetroot, with your love it’s crowned!


Holding hands we walk on shore,
Reminded me, when you proposed on Moore
A smile that appears like a radiant sun,
Melts away my worries one by one


My eyes flutter and stomach catch butterflies
In your arms, overlookin’ the eyes of passerby’s
You kiss me underneath the starry night
This silent promise to me is A Summer’s Delight!

Rukha Khalid

Rukha Khalid (2001-Present) is a Pakistani writer and poet with a deep passion for Literature and the written word. Growing up, Rukha was an avid reader of novels and enjoyed writing fanfiction in her free time. However, it wasn’t until they started studying English Literature at Lahore College for Women University that she discovered a love for poetry. Since then, Rukha has been exploring the beauty and power of poetry and has been honing her skill as a writer. While Rukha is drawn to darker themes and content, she is also inspired by the beauty of nature and often incorporates these themes into her writing.
