Rivka

Kegan Wyckoff 2008 (Minneapolis)

The stories you do not hear,
and the lives of people,
who are looked down upon,
even to this day.

The names that were changed,
for the “better” of the American people,
the families that were separated,
and forced to flee their homes for their beliefs.

The journey of the lost,
and wanting to be found,
by someone or something that will treat them right,
but when found,
did anything really change?

Did we come to this country,
just to feel out of place still?
and still get greeted with remarks?
did the lives we lost on our way here mean nothing?

Should we forget about the history of some?
should the schools ignore what happened?
and allow the students of these descendants,
be mocked for who they are?

Or should we remember Rebecca as Rivka?
