Set me free

Tyler James Stevens 1994 (East Wenatchee)

A life so sweet that I made from scratch, I’ve gone through many trial to get here, it was slow not fast.
Addiction was a demon that I fought oh so dear, now I’m sober with nothing to fear.
I am blessed to say that I was given a second chance. It’s a true story, let me tell you why. I almost died in a car accident that injured my mind and almost took my life.
It gave me a TBI, but that’s in the past.
My life is a miracle each day that I breathe, thanks to God, he created a new me and set me free.

About this poem

I spent most of my 20’s battling addiction, in and out of impatient treatment centers.. A total of 7 of them, 5 here in the State of Washington and 2 more out of State. October 12th, 2019 I was in a severe, almost fatal car accident that put me in a coma for 2 weeks and gave me a TBI(traumatic brain injury) I fully recovered from having to relearn everything all over again, including walking and speaking. After my car accident I couldn’t stop smoking Cannabis and drinking alcohol so I went to another treatment in Massachusetts. Today I’m fully recovered from my brain injury and addiction with 1 year and going on 9 months. My life is a miracle

Tyler James Stevens

I am 29 years old and from the valley of Wenatchee, Washington. I have a very big family and a lot of acquaintances. I spent my life growing up in the Wenatchee, valley and went to Eastmont high school in East Wenatchee, but I did not graduate because I went to job corps in Oregon, I graduated job corps with my GED and as a apprentice plumber. After job corps I did not get into plumbing right away instead I got into the party life and drugs. I knew my worth throughout my 20s, but addiction was such a cunning enemy that it always won in my fight, trying to become sober and clean. A lot more took place and I believe I mentioned some of that in my poem. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my life. more…
