Love Without Wings

Charles Edward York 1966 (Saigon, Vietnam)

Love Without Wings

Without proof love has no wings
The muscle and effort
And even all the spoken words
Lies idle and still as
A jet plane on a runway
Unable to take off,
Soar in the heavens
And keep company with angels.

Without fire passion turns cold
The warmth of the sun
Able to sustain life
Burns out and sets
Darkness descends on
Dreams meant to awaken
As the rose withers
And petals fall silently to die.

Staring at the endless horizon
A sea of tears weeps
For smiles fallen off faces
That shared kisses across oceans
Distance between us
Severs our connection
And what once never ending
Sleeps unwelcome and alone.
