    Japan has given us haiku. Contemplative little people on little islands with a self image belittled by the Second World War and US terms of peace. Buddhism, Shintoism leave lots of room for meditation, extrapolation, tiny garden scenes. We in the west push forward the image of racing, impatient self aggrandizement and commercialism. Haiku doesn’t click.
