Unraveling the Layers Within

Carrie Sweet 1986 (Grand Junction)

Within my mind, a knot is tightly bound,
A tangle of emotions that I can't expound.
Locked away, it's a case I can't unseal,
A burden that's too heavy for me to feel.

The chains of my past hold me back,
A debris of thoughts that form an unyielding stack.
Every step I take feels like an uphill climb,
But I must press on to face what's left behind.

I yearn to express what's in my heart,
To shed some light on what has been torn apart.
But the right words elude me, try as I might,
And the knot within me remains a stubborn fight.

Still, I am determined to find a way,
To break free from the chains that make me sway.
I'll leave the past behind and face what's true,
Unraveling the knot until my heart feels anew.

About this poem

As the writer of this poem, I wanted to express the emotional struggle I often experience within myself. It's like there's a knot inside me, a tangled mess of emotions that I can't seem to unravel. It's a burden that feels too heavy to bear, and it leaves me feeling trapped and overwhelmed. The past is like a chain that holds me back, a pile of debris that makes it hard for me to move forward. I yearn to express myself and let go of what's weighing me down, but the right words elude me. Still, I'm determined to find a way to face what's left behind and break free from these emotional chains. I believe that if I keep pushing and unraveling the knot within me, I'll find a sense of renewal and peace.

Carrie Sweet

Hi, I'm Carrie, and I'm a poet. I draw inspiration from the ups and downs of everyday life, exploring the complex emotions that we all experience but often struggle to put into words. Through my poetry, I aim to capture the essence of these experiences, delving deep into the raw, honest emotions that define the human experience. I believe that poetry is a powerful tool for self-expression and self-discovery, and I pour my heart and soul into every piece I create. Whether I'm writing about love, loss, or the challenges of simply being human, I'll even write sentiments about loved pets or sweet nothings. I always strive to connect with my readers on a deep and meaningful level. When I'm not writing, you can usually find me taking hikes in nature, or spending time with loved ones or watching a good movie with my husband. more…
