Insomnia Personified

Blue skies to dark nights
A lifelong routine
Day’s expanse of blue is a welcome sight
But when the night comes
And the dark cascades around me
It swallows the light in its ravenous, unforgiving mouth
Then the villain awakens
The big, bad, indomitable foe
The burglar of sleep
And a harbinger of love for the sunrise
A love born from a way to escape the darkness
To escape drifting off
Into a black whirlpool of recurring nightmares

Dark nights to blue skies
The dawn is my friend
It welcomes the restless and soothes night’s cold sting
The sting that materialized out of hatred for the ceiling
Always there
A wide square above
The only companion of wild midnight eyes
Eyes that play the victim of a trivial crime
The crime of loathing the sun's slow ascent
