A miracle

labeeqa baneen 2003 (Okara, Pakistan)

Miracles, they say, are rare and few
And in my heart, I know that’s not true
For I have seen them all around
In every sight and every sound

In the way the sun rises each day
And the night fades slowly away
In the blooming of a flower small
And the grandeur of a waterfall

In the laughter of a child’s glee
And the warmth of a friend’s company
In the strength that we find within
And the courage to start again

In the kindness of a stranger’s hand
And the beauty of a far-off land
In the love that we give and receive
And the grace we find when we grieve

Yes, miracles are all around
If only we take a moment to look around
For life itself is a miracle, you see
It’s a gift to be cherished, just like you and me.
